HomecomingOS Community Guidelines

Effective Date: August 24, 2026
Last Updated: August 24, 2026

HomecomingOS was created to help the HBCU community connect, celebrate, share information, and make the most of the Homecoming experience.

We want HomecomingOS to be useful, welcoming, safe, and respectful. These Community Guidelines apply whenever you interact with other users or contribute content through HomecomingOS, including profiles, reviews, comments, discussions, direct messages, private groups, roll calls, event submissions, Hacks, Deals, Trades, and other community features.

By contributing content or interacting with other HomecomingOS users, you agree to follow these guidelines.

1. Respect the Community

Treat other members of the HomecomingOS community with respect.

Do not use HomecomingOS to:

  • Harass, bully, intimidate, stalk, or threaten another person.
  • Target someone with repeated unwanted contact.
  • Promote hatred or discrimination against individuals or groups.
  • Encourage violence or physical harm.
  • Deliberately humiliate, degrade, or abuse another user.
  • Interfere with another person's ability to participate safely in the community.

Disagreement is allowed. Abuse is not.

2. Keep HomecomingOS Safe

Do not post, send, or promote content that creates an unreasonable risk to other users.

Prohibited content includes:

  • Credible threats of violence or physical harm.
  • Instructions or encouragement to commit illegal or dangerous acts.
  • Content intended to facilitate stalking or harassment.
  • Personal information shared about another person without permission.
  • Attempts to expose another person's home address, private phone number, financial information, passwords, or other sensitive information.
  • Malicious links, malware, phishing attempts, or other content designed to compromise another user's device or account.

If you believe someone is in immediate danger, contact the appropriate local emergency services. HomecomingOS is not an emergency-response service.

3. No Scams, Fraud, or Deceptive Listings

HomecomingOS may allow users to share Deals, Trades, event information, ticket-related information, and other community resources.

Do not use these features to:

  • Sell or promote fraudulent or counterfeit tickets.
  • Misrepresent goods, services, events, or availability.
  • Create fake event listings.
  • Collect money under false pretenses.
  • Promote pyramid schemes, phishing schemes, or similar scams.
  • Pretend to represent an HBCU, organization, venue, promoter, business, or individual when you do not.
  • Use deceptive links or misleading descriptions.

HomecomingOS does not process or guarantee transactions between users. Exercise appropriate judgment before exchanging money, tickets, merchandise, or personal information with another person.

4. Do Not Impersonate Others

Be yourself.

Do not create an account or post content intended to impersonate:

  • Another HomecomingOS user.
  • An HBCU.
  • A university administrator or employee.
  • An athletics department or foundation.
  • A fraternity, sorority, alumni organization, or student organization.
  • An event promoter or venue.
  • A business or public figure.

Parody or commentary should not be presented in a way that reasonably misleads other users about who is speaking.

5. No Spam or Unwanted Promotion

Do not use HomecomingOS to flood the community with repetitive, irrelevant, or unsolicited content.

This includes:

  • Repeatedly posting the same message or listing.
  • Mass messaging users for promotional purposes.
  • Sending excessive friend requests.
  • Repeatedly inviting users to groups or roll calls.
  • Posting unrelated advertisements.
  • Manipulating votes, ratings, reviews, or community engagement.
  • Attempting to bypass HomecomingOS content restrictions by embedding contact information or promotional links where they are not permitted.

Some HomecomingOS features may allow relevant links in designated fields. Use those fields as intended.

6. Keep Content Appropriate

Do not post or send content that is unlawful, exploitative, or seriously inappropriate for the HomecomingOS community.

This includes:

  • Pornographic or sexually exploitative material.
  • Sexual content involving minors.
  • Content that promotes or facilitates human exploitation.
  • Graphic depictions of serious violence when unrelated to a legitimate informational purpose.
  • Illegal goods or services.
  • Content whose primary purpose is to facilitate criminal activity.

Context matters, and HomecomingOS may consider the purpose and circumstances of content when reviewing reports.

7. Respect Privacy

Think carefully before sharing personal information about yourself or others.

Do not publish another person's private information without permission.

Be particularly cautious when sharing:

  • Current location or travel plans.
  • Hotel or lodging information.
  • Phone numbers.
  • Email addresses.
  • Home addresses.
  • Financial information.
  • Screenshots of private conversations.
  • Information about another person's family or personal life.

A recipient of a direct or group message may still copy, save, screenshot, or forward what you send. Only share information you are comfortable providing to that person.

8. Respect Intellectual Property

Only upload or share content you have the right to use.

Do not knowingly post:

  • Copyrighted photographs, graphics, flyers, videos, or other materials without authorization.
  • Unauthorized reproductions of protected content.
  • Trademarks or logos in a manner that falsely suggests sponsorship or endorsement.
  • Content belonging to another user without permission.

If you believe content on HomecomingOS infringes your intellectual-property rights, contact HomecomingOS Support.

9. Reviews, Comments, and Discussions Should Be Genuine

Reviews, ratings, comments, and community discussions should reflect genuine experiences or opinions.

Do not:

  • Submit fake reviews.
  • Coordinate false ratings.
  • Post misleading claims intended to damage another person, event, organization, or business.
  • Manipulate community voting.
  • Use multiple accounts to artificially influence content.
  • Deliberately spread information you know to be false.

You may express criticism or negative opinions. Keep them relevant and avoid harassment, threats, or knowingly false factual claims.

10. Direct Messages and Private Groups

These Community Guidelines also apply to direct messages and private groups.

Private does not mean exempt from the rules.

Do not use messaging features to:

  • Harass or threaten another user.
  • Send repeated unwanted messages.
  • Send scams or fraudulent offers.
  • Distribute malicious links.
  • Circumvent a user's block.
  • Coordinate abuse or harassment of another person.

Users may report inappropriate private interactions to HomecomingOS.

11. Blocking Other Users

HomecomingOS allows users to block other members.

Blocking is intended to help users control unwanted interactions.

When you block another user, HomecomingOS may restrict interactions such as friend requests, direct messaging, private-group invitations, roll calls, activity sharing, and other social interactions.

Users should not attempt to circumvent another person's block by creating additional accounts or using other HomecomingOS features to contact them.

12. Reporting Content or Users

If you encounter content or behavior that violates these Community Guidelines, use the reporting tools available within HomecomingOS.

Reports may be reviewed by HomecomingOS administrators or moderators.

When submitting a report:

  • Choose the reason that best describes the issue.
  • Provide relevant information when requested.
  • Submit reports in good faith.

Do not knowingly submit false reports or use the reporting system to harass another user.

Submitting a report does not guarantee a specific enforcement action. HomecomingOS will review the available information and determine the appropriate response.

13. Moderation and Enforcement

Serenitech Solutions may review reported content, accounts, and activity when necessary to enforce these Community Guidelines, the HomecomingOS Terms of Use, or applicable law.

Depending on the circumstances, HomecomingOS may:

  • Dismiss a report when no violation is found.
  • Remove or hide content.
  • Restrict particular community features.
  • Warn a user.
  • Limit interactions between users.
  • Suspend or terminate an account where appropriate.
  • Preserve information when reasonably necessary for safety, security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or enforcement purposes.

The response may depend on the severity of the conduct, whether the behavior is repeated, and the risk posed to other users.

Serious violations may result in action without a prior warning.

14. Attempts to Evade Enforcement

Do not attempt to evade HomecomingOS safety or moderation controls.

Examples include:

  • Creating another account after being blocked or suspended in order to contact someone.
  • Altering content to bypass prohibited-content controls.
  • Using direct API access or modified software to bypass application restrictions.
  • Reposting content that was removed for violating these guidelines.
  • Encouraging another user to violate restrictions on your behalf.

Attempts to evade enforcement may result in additional account restrictions.

15. Changes to These Guidelines

HomecomingOS will continue to evolve, and these Community Guidelines may be updated as new community features are introduced or our safety practices change.

When material changes are made, HomecomingOS may require users to review and accept the updated guidelines before contributing additional community content.

The "Last Updated" date at the top of this page identifies the current version.
